Kitchen cabinet measurement checklist
Create two measured views
Draw a plan view and each wall elevation. Record wall lengths, ceiling height and the position and size of doors, windows, bulkheads, columns and fixed obstacles. Measure at more than one height and note anything visibly out of square. Label every dimension in millimetres.
Map services and structure
Show water, waste, gas, electrical points, ventilation, switchboards and any fixed services. Do not assume they can move. Ask the relevant trades what must remain accessible and what work would be required for the proposed layout.
Use exact appliance models
List the refrigerator, oven, cooktop, rangehood, dishwasher, microwave and any other integrated appliance. Keep manufacturer drawings and required ventilation, service and door clearances. Generic appliance widths are not enough for an approved cabinet schedule.
Build a component schedule
Identify base, wall and tall cabinets, doors, drawers, internal accessories, panels, fillers, kickboards and handles. Record finished end panels and visible sides. Treat benchtops, sinks, tapware, splashbacks and installation as separate scopes unless included.
Agree the verification step
An early owner measurement may be enough for a concept or estimate. The accepted process should state who verifies the site before final manufacture or supply and how changes are approved. Keep the verified drawing and selection schedule with the order.
What to send JS Supply
- Dimensioned plan and elevations
- Photos of each wall and access path
- Appliance model list
- Service positions
- Preferred cabinet direction and finish
- Postcode, access notes and desired sequence
- Open questions and items to retain
Use this guide for a real product decision
This kitchen cabinet measurement checklist turns an early room sketch into a brief that a cabinetry supplier can question and develop. It is particularly useful before requesting a Newcastle or Hunter kitchen quote because it keeps walls, services, appliances and access together. It does not replace the final site verification required by the accepted supply process.
Your comparison worksheet
| Decision | What to record or confirm |
|---|---|
| Room shell | Measure every wall, opening, ceiling change, nib, column and obstruction in millimetres. |
| Services | Locate water, waste, gas, power, ventilation and items that must remain accessible. |
| Appliances | Record exact models, manufacturer openings, ventilation and door clearances. |
| Cabinet components | List modules, panels, fillers, plinths, handles, hardware and internal accessories. |
| Related scopes | Separate benchtops, splashbacks, sink, mixer, trades, removal and installation. |
Common mistakes to avoid
- Measuring only along the floor when walls vary at bench and overhead height.
- Designing around generic appliance widths.
- Leaving fillers and finished end panels out of the quote comparison.
- Treating an inspiration image as a manufacturing schedule.
Turn the shortlist into an order
Photograph each wall square-on and name the images to match the plan. Mark where each measurement begins and ends, and note whether it is taken to a finished surface. Browse the kitchen cabinetry collection for direction, then send the sketch, appliance list and finish preference through the SWETE cabinetry enquiry.
Ask the supplier to state when and by whom final site dimensions are verified, what drawing you approve and how later variations affect price and timing. Keep that approved drawing with the appliance schedule.
